What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness which allows the mind to be receptive to learning, change, and creativity. The deeply relaxed state of hypnosis can allow us to transcend the limitations of old thought patterns and behaviors. Hypnosis works with the subconscious mind and the imagination to create new neural pathways and possibilities.
We will work towards the goals that you set for yourself, and I craft each script to meet your needs, values and preferences. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis - so with hypnotherapy you are learning to use the power of your own mind to create positive change. Depending on your goals, you may benefit from one or several sessions to meet your desired outcome.
Hypnotherapy is not psychotherapy, but it can compliment and enhance your healing goals. If you are seeking hypnotherapy to address mental health issues, talk to your therapist about whether it would be an appropriate addition to your treatment.
I primarily utilize clinical hypnotherapy, or suggestive therapy, in my practice, as this is sufficient in many cases to achieve a desired outcome. Should a more in-depth approach be needed or desired by the client, I am also able to facilitate regression therapy by client request and when appropriate. Please inquire for more information.
Hypnotherapy can help with:
In our busy world, relaxation is hard to come by. We can often find ourselves in a constant state of overstimulation. Hypnotherapy will help you to cultivate relaxation - an internal state you can come back to more and more with practice. Hypnotherapy can also be applied to a variety of sleep issues.
Relaxation & Sleep
Is it time to let go of limiting beliefs about who you are, and connect to your true nature - your innate value and the potential you bring to the world?
Hypnosis can help you align with your authentic self, moving past self-judgment and towards self-acceptance and self-worth.
Hypnosis is famously useful for changing habits and behaviors. By getting past the critical factor of the ego and working directly through the subconscious mind instead, hypnosis brings change in a way that feels more effortless and natural.
By training the mind to relax and perceive situations in a more helpful way, hypnosis is a great tool for working with the anxious mind. It can help to reframe thoughts, behaviors and beliefs that contribute to anxiety, moving you towards more adaptive and flexible ways of responding to life situations.
Increasingly, the field of medicine is affirming what humans have always intuitively known about the integral relationship between body and mind. Hypnosis uses the body-mind connection through the power of visualization, also reinforcing the behaviors and attitudes that contribute to wellness.
Health & Wellness
Hypnosis can reinforce to the inner mind the why and how of your goals and give you a mental picture of what it looks like to achieve them - helping you to move past resistance and take the next step.
How It Works
Step 1: We begin with a one-hour assessment of your goals, habits, motivations, and resources. This session initiates the process of change by helping us both discern a clear understanding of your current situation, and envisioning a path to your goal.
Step 2: I create an individualized hypnosis script for you based the suggestions we co-create during your initial session.
Step 3: We meet for your hypnotherapy session (approximately one hour).
Step 4: You'll be provided with an audio recording to listen to at home to continue to reinforce your goals.
Sessions may be in-person in Wilmington, NC, or virtual on Zoom.
